Prairie Visions

Prairie Visions is the name of an unusual governmental entity created by a "Joint Powers Agreement" between Adams, LeRoy, Rose Creek, and Taopi in conjunction with Mower County.  Its purpose is to promote the common good of all the communities especially by developing facilities like the Shooting Star Scenic Byway and the Shooting Star Trail in conjunction with the State of Minnesota Dept of Transportation and Dept of Natural Resources, utilizing Federal funding.

Each of the small cities contributes $1 a year per resident to provide a bit of funding for the cadre of over 30 volunteers from the area, including some from  Austin.

It is the volunteers who have worked for almost 20 years to lobby at the Capital in St. Paul and with the Mower County officials to get the necessary actions and funds so the "rails to trails" program enacted back when many railroads were abandoning their branch lines can become more than a line on a map.  Then when tangible facilities have been developed, the volunteers are the ones who help keep the trail clean and neat and plan events like the bike rides which are also staffed by the volunteers.

Area newspapers have provided extensive coverage of the activities of the Prairie Visions volunteers. Reporter Lee Bonorden of the Austin Herald has offered regular coverage over the years. The LeRoy Independant and the Adams-Staceyville Monitor have been just as thorough.
